On day one of the gubernatorial recount, 56 of Minnesota's 87 counties counted all of their ballots and another 13 counties had 20 precincts or fewer left to count, according to Monday's recount results from the Secretary of State.

Altogether, Democrat Mark Dayton picked up 20 votes while Republican Tom Emmer gained 4. The biggest changes came from Dakota County, where Emmer lost 38 votes and Dayton lost 12. However, some of those losses could be the result of the 8 ballots challenged by Emmer and 7 challenges from Dayton.

Dayton's biggest gains came from Clay, Goodhue, Hennepin and Olmsted counties, where he picked up a total of 48 votes, despite Emmer's challenges of 21 ballots in those four counties. Emmer's biggest gains came in Clay, Otter Tail and Steele counties, which together gave him 16 more votes.

The results released by the Secretary of State's office Monday did not include results for 10 counties.
