Difficult Travel from High Winds

October 27, 2009 at 7:25PM

A cold front slicing southeast across the West will continue to cause highwinds Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. The strong north to northwestwinds are ushering much cooler air into the region as well. The strongest winds will be over the mountains of California, where there couldbe some gusts close to 80 mph. Very strong winds will also produce very roughsurf along the coast. Obviously, with these wind speeds, tree damage may causepower outages and damage to buildings.

Travelers in this region will encounter dangerous crosswinds, which will be ofparticular concern for high-profile vehicles. The wind will also causewidespread blowing dust, greatly reducing visibility in some areas.

The wind will gradually subside Wednesday afternoon from northwest to southeastacross the region.
