Six months after releasing his 15th solo album and 18 days after turning 70, Ringo Starr mostly turned back time on Sunday for two hours of classic-rock at Mystic Lake Casino. His 11th incarnation of His All-Starr Band is heavy on 1970s B-listers (Edgar Winter, Gary Wright and Rick Derringer) and now embraces 1980s MTV C-listers Wally Palmar of the Romantics and Richard Page of Mr. Mister. At least, these other singers gave Ringo a chance to be a drumming machine. (See review.) Still, it made a Ringo fan yearn for some of the A-listers from previous All-Starr Bands (Todd Rundgren, Dr. John, Joe Walsh, Clarence Clemons, Levon Helm, Sheila E). Derringer definitely has rock 'n' roll spirit, Wright sounded like the template for Phil Collins' solo career, and Palmar was too exuberant for his own good. Yes, many of the fans showed up just to see an ex- Beatle in person, and Palmar must have gotten involved just to perform with a Beatle. The two songs from Ringo's new "Y Not" album were encouraging. However, he omitted several hits, including "You're Sixteen" and "Oh My My," in favor of the jukebox of hits from His All-Starr colleagues. Although Ringo was aware that he was at Mystic Lake Casino, he might not have known he was close to the Electric Fetus. While he sported a Fetus T-shirt at the Grammy Awards in January (it was given to him by his nephew from Minneapolis), he wore a T-shirt with an artful design -- and no words -- on Sunday. Here is the set list from Sunday's concert: It Don't Come Easy (sung by Ringo)/ Honey Don't (Ringo)/ Choose Love (Ringo)/ Hang On Sloopy (McCoys song by Rick Derringer)/ Free Ride (Edgar Winter)/ Talking in Your Sleep (Romantics by Wally Palmar)/ I Wanna Be Your Man (Ringo)/ Dream Weaver (Gary Wright)/ Kyrie (Mr. Mister by Richard Page)/ The Other Side of Liverpool (Ringo)/ Yellow Submarine (Ringo)/ Frankenstein (Winter instrumental for which Ringo exited)/ Peace Dream (Ringo)/ Back Off, Boogaloo (Ringo)/ What I Like About You (Palmar)/ Rock 'n' Roll Hootchie Koo (Derringer)/ Boys (Ringo)/ Love is Alive (Wright)/ Broken Wings (Page)/ Photograph (Ringo)/ Act Naturally (Ringo)/ With a Little Help from My Friends (Ringo)/ brief rendition of Give Peace a Chance (Ringo)
