Elected to Senate: 1990; serving his sixth term. Before that, he served on the Owatonna City Council and the Steele County Commission.

Notable: former Republican Senate Minority Leader best known for pushing slot machines at Canterbury Park and the elimination of traffic-control meters on freeway entrance ramps. In 2008, Day lost the Republican primary in Minnesota's 1st Congressional District to Brian Davis, a Mayo Clinic physician who was endorsed by the party. Davis lost to incumbent U.S. Rep. Tim Walz.
