Diamond tries to help Twins avoid sweep in his MLB debut

Lefthander Scott Diamond gets the start in Game 2 of the day-night doubleheader against Cleveland.

The temperature reached 96 degrees, and with the humidity, Weater.com said it felt like 108, as the Twins flailed away against David Huff in losing Game 1 of today's day-night doubleheader 4-0 at Target Field.

In Game 2, the Twins will be facing Fausto Carmona, who has been on the DL with a strained quad.

"He's coming off the DL, so hopefully we can be patient early, see if he's throwing strikes," Michael Cuddyer said.

Cuddyer was among the Twins players who had IV fluids injected between games. They have cold tubs in the clubhouse, so there will be plenty to reinvigorate everyone.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka is getting a break, with Alexi Casilla moving to shortstop and Luke Hughes at second base.

Scott Diamond will be making his major league debut, filling in for the injured Scott Baker. The lefthander was 4-8 with a 4.70 ERA in 17 starts for Rochester and had a 2.40 ERA in two July starts.

Note: The Twins announced that their June 14 postponement against the White Sox will be played Sept. 5 at 7:10 p.m., as part of a day-night doubleheader. Now that's a Labor Day.
