DFL challenger Matt Entenza filed an official campaign complaint against sitting DFL auditor Rebecca Otto based on a Facebook comment she posted.
In the post, Otto claimed that no one could find a 2003 voter ID bill that she had opposed, as Entenza had claimed. "Matt," she concluded, "will say anything." In fact, Entenza said, there was a 2003 floor amendment she voted against.
The complaint, filed with the Office of Administrative Hearings, is the latest dust up in the low-profile auditor's race.
Otto was not immediately available to respond the complaint. This post will be updated with her response.
Entenza, a former House minority leader, filed for the office in the last moments before deadline, surprising Otto, a former House colleague, and many DFLers.
Republicans, meanwhile, sought to capitalize on the DFL fissures. On Tuesday, GOP auditor candidate Randy Gilbert emailed supporters, "My race just got interesting!" and the Republican Party said, "Gilbert shows the way, while Democrat politicians Otto and Entenza argue about who is more extreme left wing."
