The basics: This Montana gem is named for glaciers and the stunning land formations they create. The so-called Crown of the Continent contains aqua-blue glacier-fed lakes, pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains and more than 700 miles of trails. Many features can be seen on the park's Going-to-the-Sun Road. The area once had 150 glaciers; now it only has 25.

Visitors: 2.36 million people ­visited the park in 2015.
