LOS ANGELES — The minions of "Despicable Me 2" squeaked out another win at the box office last weekend, beating out the debuts of the Adam Sandler comedy "Grown Ups 2" and sci-fi fanboy flick "Pacific Rim."
The animated sequel from Universal pulled down $43.9 million in the U.S. and Canada for a whopping $228.4 million in ticket sales since its debut ahead of the July Fourth holiday. It's on pace to be one of the biggest animated movies of the year alongside Disney's "Monsters University," which pulled down $10.6 million in its fourth week.
The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Hollywood.com, are:
