The 133rd St. Paul Winter Carnival has unveiled the designs for its 2019 collector buttons, which include a form to register for the annual $10,000 treasure hunt for the festival's medallion.

The buttons help fund the celebration of all things winter starting in late January. The designs of this year's four buttons represent the Winter Carnival Royal Family and Vulcan Krewe, the treasure hunt, downtown ice skating and sledding.

The outdoor hunt for the medallion has been a Winter Carnival tradition since 1952. The Pioneer Press publishes a new clue daily for much of the festival or until the medallion is found.

The buttons sell for $5 each or $19 for the set. They are on sale at Speedway gas stations, Cub Foods, other retailers and at www.wintercarnival.com, where all four designs are posted.

The carnival, billed as "The Coolest Celebration on Earth," runs from Jan. 24 to Feb. 3. Most events are in downtown St. Paul and around Kellogg Mall Park, Landmark Center and the State Fairgrounds.
