A suspect suffered injuries and was arrested in a shooting incident with police in rural Crookston on Thursday afternoon.

Area law enforcement agencies responded to a 911 call about shots fired inside a residence in the area of Hwy. 75 and 300th Street SW., shortly before 1 p.m. According to initial reports, as Polk County deputies talked with family members outside the home, the suspect started firing at them from inside the home.

Officers returned fire and a deputy was struck in the back of his bullet-resistant vest. The suspect was wounded in the exchange, taken into custody and transported by ambulance to a hospital. He was treated for noncritical injuries and then jailed in Crookston.

The deputy who was struck also was checked at a hospital and released.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
