WASHINGTON — Two Democratic senators say they'll hold a forum on immigration in the home district of Iowa Republican congressman Steve King to pressure him in the wake of incendiary comments he made on immigrant youths.
Sens. Tom Harkin of Iowa and Dick Durbin of Illinois say the event set for Aug. 2 in Ames will feature Iowan immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as kids.
King has come under attack for asserting that many such youths are actually drug mules.
The event will come as Congress breaks for a five-week summer recess expected to feature events around the country aimed at pressuring House Republicans to act on immigration.
