Defending CI Division champion goes down in adapted soccer

Anoka-Hennepin upset defending state champion South Washington County 7-3 in the quarterfinals of the CI Division of the adapted soccer state tournament Friday at Stillwater High School.

Junior Cole Denny scored three goals to lead the Thunderbolts. Tyler Baron and Jean Achicha had two goals each.

Anoka-Hennepin will next face North Suburban, which got four goals from Anthony Bengston and three from Josh Hauman in a 10-3 victory over Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville.

Junior Allen Chambers' goal with 56 seconds left lifted Minneapolis Roosevelt over Columbia Heights/St. Anthony 7-6. Junior Elijah Jackson led the Teddies with three goals. They face Park Center in the semifinals after the Pirates beat Chaska/Chanhassen/Prior Lake/Shakopee 4-2.

PI Division

Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound-Westonka continued its quest for an eighth consecutive state championship, beating St. Paul Humboldt 17-2. The Robins next face Dakota United, which beat Mounds View/Irondale/Roseville 10-3.

Anoka-Hennepin beat South Suburban 9-1 and faces Park Center, an 8-2 winner over Minneapolis South, in the other semifinal.
