Skyler Weinzirl of Hudson, Wis., shared a tree stand with his dad, Jason, on opening morning of the Wisconsin firearms season in St. Croix County. They arrived before dawn, then took a break at 10 a.m. for food and warmth. Skyler regained his perch while his dad looped around to the backside of a bedding area. Through a thicket, he saw a buck move and heard two blasts. Skyler, 12, was certain he connected. They followed the blood trail to Skyler's first-ever deer.

Jason Weinzirl, Hudson, Wis.
