I started deer hunting last year, and I only hunt with a bow. My friend Erik Larson got me into archery, and I really enjoy it. I've hunted quite a bit. But I hadn't drawn back my bowstring until Saturday, when I was hunting near Rushford in southeast Minnesota. About 7:45 that morning, I saw a buck about 150 yards away. I had never seen a buck like that before! He walked right up to a scrape I had been watching. This was about 16 yards from me, and when he turned broadside, I drew back. It was an 11-pointer, and I was so excited I had to muffle my breathing. After I shot, I went to get my friend David Allan, who was on his stand not too far away. Together we found my buck lying about 60 yards from my stand.
