Mike Smith, 64, lead singer of the Dave Clark Five, died Thursday of pneumonia near London, less than two weeks before the band was to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
He had complications from a spinal cord injury that left him partially paralyzed. He was injured in a fall at his home in Spain in 2003.
Smith wrote songs as well sang and played keyboards for the Dave Clark Five, one of many British bands and singers whose music swept the United States in the 1960s.
The Dave Clark Five claimed a string of hits, including "Glad All Over" and "I Like it Like That."
David Edwards, 20, who was paralyzed during a 2003 high school football playoff game and whose injury was fictionalized in the TV show "Friday Night Lights," died Feb. 25 in San Antonio.
Edwards was stricken with pneumonia late last year.
A junior defensive back at San Antonio Madison, Edwards broke his neck when he collided with a wide receiver when both were reaching for a pass.
Vincent Anania, 87, father of Elizabeth Edwards, died Saturday of heart failure in Chapel Hill, N.C., said his daughter, who is wife of former presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards.
