Save green on the Greenway

Summer might be coasting to an end, but there's no reason to relegate your bike to the garage. Looking for an excuse to take out your two-wheel whip? Biking to the bar is a great way to justify those empty calories, and with these establishments located right off the Greenway, it's as cheap as it is convenient.

Tiger Sushi

2841 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls. • 612-874-1800 • www.tigersushiusa.com

With a stairway from its patio to the Greenway, the Uptown sushi restaurant is a no-brainer biking destination. But if you need some extra incentive, roll by during the 4 to 6 p.m. weekday happy hour when taps, house wine and sake fetch $4 each, with discounts on sushi and apps.

A La Salsa Restaurante Mexicano & Bar

920 E. Lake St., Mpls. • 612-872-4140 • www.salsaalasalsa.com

Amid the food options at the Midtown Global Market, Salsa a la Salsa outpost has a boozy leg up on the competition, boasting a full bar and daily happy hours from 3 to 5 and 8 to 9 p.m. featuring $2 select beers, $2.50 sangria and $4 house margaritas and mojitos. Pace yourself to avoid a wobbly ride home. Pound one of their massive chimichangas for maximum absorption.

Hexagon Bar

2600 27th Av. S., Mpls. • 612-722-3454 • www.hexagonbar.com

Arrive at the Hexagon via Huffy and you're saving more than a few gas bucks. The Hex is already one of the cheapest bars in town, but stop in on nights when bands aren't playing (often Sunday through Wednesday, but check the calendar) from 10 p.m. to midnight and drinks are even cheaper, with PBR tallboys going for $2.75 and rails a mere $2.25. Just a block off the Greenway, the hipster paradise/blue-collar pub is an easy place to pedal to.
