Deadline nears for Wildwood Artist Series camp grants

Music, drama and dance students who attend Mahtomedi Public Schools have until April 15 to submit applications for the 2011 Wildwood Artist Series Summer Camp grants.

The popular music program will award grants up to $500 to students who need financial assistance to attend a summer performing arts camp or participate in a summer performing arts activity.

Applicants must submit a letter in which they highlight the importance of the performing arts in their lives, list performing arts activities they have been involved in and how participation in the camp or activity will benefit their school or community. They also must demonstrate the need for the grant and get two letters of recommendation, including one from a performing arts teacher.

Applications are available from performance arts teachers in Mahtomedi schools and at the Wildwood Artists Series website, www.wildwoodartistseries.com. They should be sent to Kathy Schwister, 18099 Elmcrest Av. N., Forest Lake, MN 55025. Recipients will be notified by April 30.

WHITE BEAR LAKE

Sports Center will host family skating, games and egg huntThe White Bear Lake Sports Center will serve up two hours of fun for families with its "Bunny Hop" from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

In addition to open ice skating hosted by DJ Steve, the event includes Easter games, face painting, goody bags and a search for the "Golden" egg. Tickets are $5 and skate rental will be available for $1. The center is at 1328 E. Hwy. 96. For information, call 651-429-8571.

OAKDALE

Zephyr alum Tim Brown headlines foundation galaMahtomedi High School graduate and singer/songwriter Tim Brown will be the featured entertainer at the Mahtomedi Area Educational Foundation's annual Spring Gala Saturday at the Prom Center, 484 Inwood Av., Oakdale.

Brown, who has performed throughout the Twin Cities for the past 25 years, will play selections by some of his favorite artists, who include Gordon Lightfoot, Cat Stevens and Simon and Garfunkel, along with original compositions, when he takes the stage around 9:30 p.m.

Festivities get started at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction, raffle, a "Heads and Tails" game, dinner and program. Tickets are $50 and up. For information call 651-407-2006.
