Gov. Mark Dayton has appointed John Linc Stine as acting head of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

Stine, who currently serves as the agency's deputy commissioner replaces outgoing Commissioner Paul Aasen, who is leaving to become Minneapolis's city coordinator. Dayton made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.

"Commissioner Aasen has done a superb job leading a state agency with critically important responsibilities. Our loss will be Minneapolis' great gain," Dayton said in a statement.

Stine will take over as acting commissioner on May 14. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency monitors environmental quality and enforces environmental regulations in the state.
