Gov. Mark Dayton was winging his way eastward to Washington D.C. Thursday for a bunch of meetings -- including, most notably, a sit down with President Obama.

The White House announced that Obama will meet with Dayton and 13 other Democratic governors on Friday morning "to discuss the ways Washington and the states can work together to grow the economy and create jobs."

After that confab, the governors will meet the White House press corps around midday.

Dayton planned to start his visit Thursday afternoon with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood (to be followed by, yes, another press availability.

During the rest of the weekend, he will attend sessions that are part of the National Governors Association Winter Meeting and take part in meetings of the Democratic Governors Association.
