Day 4 at Baltusrol

Keep that card

Daniel Summerhays: A 74 in the final round of the U.S. Open cost Summerhays a top-four finish and a spot in the Masters. This time, he didn't let the chance slip away. Summerhays had five birdies over the last seven holes for a 66, giving him third place alone and a tee time at Augusta National next April for the first time.

Toss that card

Jim Furyk: After middle rounds of 67 and 69, the 46-year-old shot 74 Sunday. That was just one off the high score for the day.

On the course with …

Branden Grace: Grace got within one stroke of the lead until a three-putt bogey stalled his momentum on the 16th, and he drove into the water on the 18th trying to take an aggressive angle for a shot at eagle. Even so, he went 66-67 over the final two rounds and tied for fourth, five shots behind. He also tied for fourth at last year's PGA.

PGA moment

After Jimmy Walker secured victory on the 18th, he pumped his fist in the air, took off his hat and made a beeline to caddie Andy Sanders. There, the two embraced and shook hands on the course that now will be remembered for more than where two young golfers first crossed paths. The pair met during a practice round at the 2000 U.S. Amateur.

Chip shots

• In a most peculiar final day at a major, the PGA Championship allowed for preferred lies because of nearly 4 inches of rain during the week that drenched the Lower Course. Desperate to beat the clock and avoid a second consecutive Monday finish at Baltusrol, the pairings stayed the same for the final round.

• The 36-hole final was the longest in PGA Championship history since Jim Turnesa won his 36-hole match in 1952.

• Jason Day played this year's majors in 9 under par.

Key hole

Par-4, 464-yard No. 10: Walker made pars on the first nine holes of the last round. But this is the PGA, not the U.S. Open, and a player needs birdies. He sank a bunker shot for a birdie on the 10th, then made another birdie on No. 11 to go two strokes up on Jason Day.

Quote of the day

"There was nothing easy about the day — really about the week, for that matter. Especially coming down the last hole."

— Jimmy Walker
