Davis to USC?

Report has Davis talking with Southern Cal

Greetings:

A report on ESPN has listed Gophers offensive line coach and running coordinator Tim Davis among the folks being talked to by new USC coach Lane Kiffin.

Arash Markazi of ESPNLosAngeles.com said Kiffin was basically trying to arrange a USC reunion staff. Apparently Kiffin, who was an assistant at USC from 2001 to 2006, is bringing back Ed Orgeron, a former USC assistant, back as assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator. According to Markazi, USC is also talking to former USC assistants Norm Chow and Davis, who was at USC from 2002 to 2004.

Davis left USC to be the assistant offensive line coach for the Miami Dolphins from 2005-06, then was director of player personnel at Alabama in 2008 before joining the Gophers program shortly after the 2008 regular season ended.

Would such a move surprise me? Well, yes and no. No, because even if it were a lateral move in title, USC is still a big player on the national stage. And yes, because, frankly, I'd heard from a couple folks over the past couple years that Davis wasn't a huge fan of Mr. Kiffin. Those people could have been wrong, of course.

I don't think we'll have to wait long to find out; I don't think Kiffin is going to waste much time putting together his staff.

That's about it. Have a good day.
