The Minnesota primary is on the move.
Lawmakers Friday are holding their first hearing on changing the 2010 primary date from September to August.
You can read about the move here.
The move itself is big enough, but nearly as big are all the dates that would also have to shift to comply with the summer date.
Check out this list of all the dates that would move with the new primary, from the Minnesota Secretary of State:
- Event, date if August primary, date if September primary
- Deadline for cities & school districts to resolve to have a primary, April 15, Aug. 2/June 1
- Deadline for changing precinct boundaries, May 1, June 1
- Calculation and certification of public funding, May 11, July 1
- Filing period, May 18 – June 1, July 6 - 20
- Withdrawal period, June 2 - 3, July 21 - 22
- Absentee ballot applications sent to permanent absentee voters, June 11, July 30
- Campaign signs allowed, June 25, Aug. 1
- Absentee balloting period for primary, June 25 – Aug. 9, Aug. 13 – Sept. 13
- Cutoff for collecting $50 contributions to qualify for public funds, July 19, Aug. 23
- Public subsidy agreements due to Campaign Finance Board, July 20, Sept. 1
- Pre-primary campaign finance reports due, July 26, Aug. 30
- State Primary, Aug. 10, Sept. 14
- Public subsidy paid to eligible candidates, Aug. 24, Sept. 28
- Absentee balloting period for general election, Sept. 17 – Nov. 1, Oct. 1 – Nov. 1
The state list lacks another few dates that would have to shift: pre-primary federal campaign finance filing dates would have to move up. An FEC spokeswoman said that shift would happen pretty automatically.
