Dances at St. Kates celebrate Chinese New Year

The Twin Cities Chinese Dance Center welcomes the Chinese New Year a bit early with dance performances this weekend at St. Catherine's University in St. Paul.

Dancers representing diverse cultural groups from ethnic minorities in China will appear in "Dance of Joy II." Shows are at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at O'Shaughnessy Auditorium, 2004 Randolph Av..

The 2012 Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dragon, officially begins Jan. 23.
