SHANGHAI BALLET
Tuesday: The Shanghai Ballet makes its Minnesota debut with "The Butterfly Lovers." The troupe combines classical ballet and Chinese folk style in its colorful productions known for spectacular sets and costumes. The story is a familiar one — two lovers kept apart by their disapproving families (think Romeo and Juliet) — but now the setting and telling is seen through a different cultural lens. Expect high levels of technical skill from this company trained in the traditions of Russian ballet. A free pre-performance discussion will be held at Solera at 6:15 p.m. (7:30 p.m. Tue. $42-$70. Orpheum Theatre, 910 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. 612-624-2345, http:// northrop.umn.edu.)
