Severe weather has rattled parts of the Plains the past several days, and today will be no exception. A new round of damaging thunderstorms will ignite this afternoon from the Texas Panhandle to western Nebraska. The thunderstorms will press eastward through Kansas, Oklahoma and North Texas tonight. Dry air clashing with a steamy air mass will fuel the intense thunderstorms. Another key ingredient will be cooler air flowing down from the northern Rockies.

The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of producing damaging winds, pounding hail and blinding downpours. A few tornadoes could touch down and cause destruction.

Today is also starting with locally severe weather over Oklahoma and North Texas. This cluster of thunderstorms will push into the mid-Mississippi Valley tonight. The main threat with these thunderstorms, however, will be flooding rain.
