Damaging, Drenching Storms Today

Drenching showers and storms will stretch from the corn belt of the Midwestthrough the mid-Mississippi Valley and into the Southeast today. Damaging windsand large hail could develop in the strongest storms, which are most likely inthe mid-Mississippi Valley. An few isolated tornadoes are possible, but thereis not as high of a risk as there was on Monday, when 19 tornadoes werereported.Flooding can occur throughout the stormy corridor as some areas will receiveupwards of 2-3 inches of rain. Road closures and some basement flooding areboth possible. Parts of Missouri into southern Illinois will be dealing withthe worst flooding, especially where streams and rivers are alreadyswollen.

Aberdeen and Sioux Falls, S.D.; Omaha, Neb.; Kansas City, St. Louis, andCape Girardeau, Mo.; Des Moines, Iowa; Louisville, Ky.; Nashville, Tenn.;perhaps even Atlanta, Ga., and Myrtle Beach, S.C., are among the cities andtowns that could have some of the feisty storms and flooding.
