NEW YORK — Prosecutors in New York City have abandoned their domestic violence case against the former CEO of the Major League Soccer team in Dallas.

An assistant district attorney told a Manhattan judge Wednesday there was "no evidence" that former FC Dallas executive Douglas Quinn intended to injure his wife during a dispute at a New York City hotel on Nov. 10.

Quinn had initially been charged with punching his wife, choking her and smothering her with a pillow.

Defense lawyer Alan Futerfas (FYOO'-tur-fas) said Thursday that Quinn maintained from the start that he never battered his wife. He says any injury she sustained had nothing to do with him.

Quinn resigned his position at FC Dallas in February, saying he wanted to spend more time with his daughters.
