Dakota County will host a gathering to encourage experienced anglers to teach children ages 15 and older how to fish. It will be from noon to 4 p.m. June 9 at Thompson County Park, 360 Butler Av. E., West St. Paul.
The event has drawn several hundred people in the past.
The county will provide lessons on how to set up a rod, tie on tackle and cast a line. Children will see live fish up-close and take part in other activities. The event is co-sponsored by the National Park Service, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Neighborhood House, Recycled Fish and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
Apple Valley
City will add land to historic cemetery
Apple Valley plans to buy another 3 acres for the city's Lebanon Cemetery at Pilot Knob Road and County Road 42.
The additional land will allow for a new entrance on the east side of the cemetery, said Jean Bryant, cemetery public works coordinator for the city.
The city has owned the cemetery since 1998. It was established in 1863 at the time of the Civil War, when the area was Lebanon Township. Until the city took it over, it was run by a private board of trustees. Many of the people who built Apple Valley are buried in the cemetery, which is open every day from sunrise to sunset.
