Dairy feedlot must deal with manure

A northwestern Minnesota feedlot agreed to pay $12,075 and address a number of manure-related issues, according to a statement last week from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. A November inspection of BGR Dairy, west of Detroit Lakes, found a manure spill, pools of manure-contaminated runoff, damage to liquid-manure storage areas, an unauthorized drain and an open lot without runoff controls. The liquid-manure storage areas lacked depth markers. The MPCA also studied aerial photographs to determine the feedlot had expanded its feed storage area a couple years ago without getting a permit. The facility, which is near Lake Park, must submit plans for managing wastewater, apply for a discharge permit and make repairs.
