Dad's Day gift ideas? Sales at Electric Fetus and Northern Tool

A vintage album, a chainsaw or a mug. What would dad like?

It's a bit of a slow news day for sales, but Electric Fetus and Northern Tool are celebrating anniversaries. If you still need an idea for Father's Day, either place might work. (Dads everywhere are heaving sighs of relief that I'm not writing about sales at the Sox Shop or the Tie Rack.)

The Fetus is discounting nearly everything storewide 20 percent. Only the usual smoking accessories and gift cards are exempt. It's a good place to find Dad an obscure CD, album or rock-n-roll T. The sale ends Sunday.

Northern Tool & Equipment has select items on sale now and even more this weekend. Starting Saturday Husqvarna chainsaws, leaf blowers, trimmers and pressure washers will be on sale. With the crazy threatening weather the country is having, maybe every Dad should have a chain saw in his garage (on a high shelf away from curious kids.)

Whatever you do, think twice before getting Dad the coffee mug with a necktie on it (#1 below) recommended by Patina gift stores. I can only hope that the folks at Patina thought this would be a good gag gift. This is a gift worthy of a Seth Meyers Saturday Night Live "Really" segment. So you really thought dad would enjoy getting a mug (a mug!) for his special day?
