cretin-derham hall 10, east ridge 7
The extra yards Cretin-Derham Hall wide receiver Aitor Flood fought for in the game's last minute led to a road victory over No. 2-ranked East Ridge. Quarterback Ricardo Johnson connected with Flood for 15 yards and the receiver broke two tackles for 3 more yards to reach the end zone with 24.3 seconds remaining. The Raptors, who had been averaging more than 40 points per game, scored their only touchdown on a 1-yard run by Austin Kamrath in the second quarter. East Ridge was in field goal position with 2:34 remaining in the game but went for it on fourth-and-5 from the 20-yard line and turned it over on downs.
Key of the game: Cretin-Derham Hall's defense, which allowed only one touchdown against one of the state's highest-scoring programs. It played without top defensive recruit Jashon Cornell, who was out with a concussion. The biggest stop came during the Raptors' final drive that ended on the edge of the red zone.
Quote: "Any time we'd get something going we'd get a penalty and hurt ourselves badly. That shouldn't happen." — East Ridge sophomore quarterback Seth Green on his team's first loss of the season and its nine penalties. He was 9-for-19 with 123 yards.
One thing to know: East Ridge was without its top running back, Nick Leach. The senior tore the ACL in his left knee last week against Park and is out for the season.
