Crash near Braham between car, dump truck leaves two dead

September 22, 2015 at 9:18PM

Two people are dead after a head-on crash midday Monday along Hwy. 65 south of Braham, Minn.

The crash, between a 2011 Ford Fusion and a dump truck, occurred at the intersection of Highways 107 and 65 in Isanti County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The two people killed were in the Ford — driver Marjorie Ripperton, 78, and passenger Glenn Houtkooper, 84, both of Redwood Falls. The truck's driver, Daniel Kent, 58, suffered noncritical injuries.

Traveling along Hwy. 107, the Ford had stopped at a stop sign before attempting to cross Hwy. 65. But it then proceeded, colliding with the truck heading north on Hwy. 65.

Traffic going north on Hwy. 65 has no yield or stop signs at that intersection, said Isanti County Sheriff Christopher Caulk. It's "a very open intersection," he said by phone Tuesday. "You can see traffic for a quarter mile in any direction."

The crash is a good reminder to be vigilant, he said, double-checking both left and right before proceeding.
