One of the world's biggest cranes soared in the Minneapolis skyline Wednesday.

The Terex CC6800 crawler crane is going to be used to hoist the highest, biggest, tallest pieces of the roof on the new Minnesota Multipurpose Stadium.

Mortenson Construction tested the crane multiple times through the day, meaning the boom was raised and lowered. That won't be a common sight, because once the crane is tested, it will be raised until its work on the site is done.

At full height, the crane is almost 400 feet tall and can lift 1,250 metric tons. It will be on the site for 15 months.

The $1 billion stadium is going up on the site of the demolished Metrodome, primarily for use by the Minnesota Vikings. The facility is set to open for the 2016 season. ROCHELLE OLSON
