Authorities are looking for whoever shot and killed two cows grazing on a national wildlife refuge in central Minnesota.

The owner of the cow and a calf on the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge called the Sheriff's Office on Tuesday to report the incident.

"The cows appeared to have been deceased for several days, based on the decomposition of the animals," the Sheriff's Office said in a statement released Friday.

The cow was found in a creek, and the calf was located roughly 15 feet away. They were a quarter-mile north of the Blue Hill Cemetery near 293rd Avenue NW. in Blue Hill Township.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Sheriff's Office at 1-763-765-3500.
