A two-vehicle collision southwest of Mankato has killed a husband and wife as they returned from the Blue Earth County Fair, where she was in a dance performance, officials said.

The crash occurred early Thursday afternoon on Hwy. 169 at the intersection with County Road 98 near Garden City, according to the State Patrol.

Killed were driver Roderick M. Elbert, 74, and his passenger, Kathy E. Ohman, 75, both of North Mankato, the patrol said. The other driver, Christopher J. Schneider, 18, of Lake Crystal, Minn., suffered noncritical injuries, the patrol added.

The patrol said Schneider was heading east on County Road 9 in a car and collided with Elbert's car which was heading north on Hwy. 169. All three people were wearing their seat belts.

An official at the Vine Adult Community Center, where the couple lived, told KTOE Radio that Ohman had performed with the Stompers dance group at the fair shortly before the crash.

Pam Determan, director of Vine, told the radio station that Ohman was "a very exuberant older adult who could outdance anybody half her age." Elbert was accompanying his wife for the performance.
