A 68-year-old Coon Rapids woman died Friday after a single-vehicle accident in Isanti County, authorities said.
She was identified on Saturday by her family as Doris Tadych, a retired hair stylist who had been riding in a minivan driven by her husband, Denis Tadych. He was released from North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale on Saturday after being treated for a concussion.
Denis Tadych, 67, was driving south on Hwy. 47 when his minivan went onto the right shoulder and off the road before hitting a tree, according to the State Patrol.
The road was dry at the time.
Denis Tadych said Saturday that because of his head injury, he does not recall exactly what happened. "That's the big question," he said. "I'm trying to find answers because it's really bothering me."
What he remembers, he said, was driving south behind an SUV that was pulling a boat on a trailer on the undivided highway. The couple were talking.
"There was a lot of traffic coming the other way," he said. "I don't know if I swerved for something other than the trailer. I don't think so."
He came to, he said, as people were trying to help him get out of his minivan. He went with them to the other side of the van to tend to his wife, who was badly injured. She had been wearing a seat belt, and an air bag deployed, the patrol said.
