Cornerback Chris Cook (knee) and defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy (knee) are both sitting out another practice today for the Vikings and won't be expected to play in Thursday night's regular-season opener at New Orleans.
Today's practice is the same as a normal Friday session for the Vikings, who will travel to New Orleans on Wednesday. That means a shorter practice. The majority of the installation for Thursday is done.
Cook underwent surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee after the third preseason game and was never expected to be ready for the opener. Kennedy was believed to have been injured in the Vikings' second preseason game on Aug. 22 at San Francisco and hasn't practiced since.
The rest of the players on the Vikings injury report were on the field to start practice. That list includes running back Toby Gerhart (knee), cornerback Cedric Griffin (knee), safety Jamarca Sanford (ankle), center John Sullivan (calf) and quarterback Brett Favre (ankle).
