OSHKOSH, Wis. — Talks on a contract extension have ended without an agreement between the Oshkosh Corp. and United Auto Workers Local 578.

The company wanted a 5-year contract extension in place before its bids on producing a tactical vehicle for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. The company and local union had a small window to negotiate the extension.

Oshkosh Corp. wanted the agreement in place by July 30. Local 578 members authorized its bargaining committee to negotiate on June 26.

Oshkosh Northwestern Media (http://oshko.sh/1b9gri9 ) says the union's bargaining committee expressed disappointment that a contract extension couldn't be negotiated. However, the committee noted the union remains under contract for three years.
