The Opus Group began construction today on the Seven Corners Hardware site, a key corner near the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The six-story, U-shaped apartment and retail project includes 11,500 square feet of ground-level retail and 191 residential units, from studios to three-bedroom townhomes.

Here is the latest rendering by ESG Architects. Opus, based in Minnetonka, expects the project will be complete in January 2017.

This project is not to be confused with another of Opus' redevelopments in St. Paul, the Seven Corners Gateway project. The developer is partnering with Greco LLC and the City of St. Paul on that project, which is located just down the street, directly across W. 7th Street from the Xcel Energy Center.
