Conservatory in bloom

Take a break from the snow and slush at the Spring Flower Show in the Sunken Garden of the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory. Stroll among blooming tulips, daffodils, crocus, hydrangeas, hyacinth, Asiatic and calla lilies. Dakota Gardeners

The public is welcome to the Dakota Gardeners March meeting, which will feature a floral design demonstration by Jenn Hovland, owner of Fleur de Louise in Stillwater, 7 p.m. March 20, South St. Paul High School, 700 2nd St. N., South St. Paul. dakotagardeners.org.

Diggers Club

Planting garden party

Gertens staff will give expert tips and advice on planting your own 14-inch hanging sun basket, 10 a.m. March 30, 5500 Blaine Av., Inver Grove Heights. You'll pick up your basket from the greenhouse in May. Cost $80; includes basket, soil and plants. Light refreshments will be served. Register at gertens.com.

Herbs, pansies and veggies

Can't wait to dig in the dirt? Tonkadale is holding three planting-themed events. Make an herb planter, 6 p.m. March 20 at Unmapped Brewing, 14625 Excelsior Blvd., Minnetonka. Cost $50; includes materials and one craft beverage.

Open-house style hands-on workshops explore seed starting, urban edible gardens, loose-leaf herbal teas, herb planting station and veggie garden planning, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. March 23. Free; no registration required.
