Company: Food violations corrected

Update to Whistleblower report on FDA warning letter.

Food wholesaler Bay Island Inc. took immediate action to fix pest control violations uncovered by a July inspection at its leased Burnsville warehouse, company officials said.

Earlier this month, Whistleblower reported that the FDA sent Bay Island a warning letter Oct. 26 about the July violations. The company was taken by surprise, because FDA inspectors had told the company that it only had to follow up with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, said company owner Robert Bolling and president Ken McMahon.

The company contracted with a pest control company on July 27 and the building owner made repairs by Aug. 9. State inspections showed the company had corrected the problems. On Nov. 12, Bay Island provided photos and records requested by the FDA to prove it.
