An open community meeting will be held Wednesday to discuss an incident last week at Washburn High School in which a dark-skinned doll was hung by students in a school stairwell.
The incident aroused substantial emotions and led to the postponement of both after-school student and school council activities Thursday before a four-day break for students.
The meeting is scheduled for 5p.m. in the school's auditorium at 201 W. 49th St. in Minneapolis, the district announced Friday. Spokeswoman Larissa Chinwah said the district is working on the format for the meeting.
The district also is working on the timing of another effort at conciliation involving the use of the ISAIAH, a St. Paul faith-based nonprofit. This type of restorative justice happens outside a formal courtroom setting and attempts to discuss both impacts and amends for an act.
A Roosevelt-Washburn basketball game affected by the cancellation has been rescheduled for Feb. 26.
