The Minnesota Department of Transportation will accept comments from the public through March 5 on a proposal to make improvements along Interstate 94 between Rogers and St. Michael.

Starting in July or August, MnDOT plans to lengthen the ramp from westbound 94 to Hwy. 101 and build a third lane in both directions between Rogers to the Hwy. 241 exit at St. Michael. The $32 million project also includes widening bridges over the Crow River and building a noise wall on the north side of the interstate in Rogers.

This week, MnDOT placed copies of the Environmental Assessment Worksheet on its web site and at libraries and city halls that explain the scope of the project along with anticipated social, economic and environmental impacts. Locations are listed below.

MnDOT says the project will add capacity to the freeway, alleviate congestion and rush hour backups and reduce congestion on nearby secondary roads.

According to MnDOT traffic counts, more than 96,000 vehicles pass through the I-94 and Hwy. 101 interchange each day while 75,000 pass by the I-94/Hwy. 241 exits.
