Just two weeks after playing a sold-out gig at Roy Wilkins Auditorium, Las Vegas rockers Imagine Dragons have announced a new show next door at Xcel Energy Center on March 12. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster and the arena box office for $29.50-$49.50.
The Dragons' are making their first foray into arena land riding the not-yet-crested wave of their breakthrough debut album, "Night Visions." The record has now spent more than a year high up on the Billboard 200 chart, buoyed first by the single "It's Time" and subsequently by the hits "Radioactive" and now "Demons."
New Zealand's Naked & the Famous will open the whole tour. Nico Vega and the X Ambassadors are also swapping out as a third opening act on the spring tour, though it's not yet clear which one will make it to the St. Paul gig.
Nico Vega's singer Aja Volkman happens to be Dragons frontman Dan Reynold's wife. Her band also opened for Imagine Dragons at the Varsity Theater this past March, when the touring cycle was already in full swing for their breakthrough debut album, "Night Visions." Per Jon Bream's review, the band already upped the ante on its stage show as it moved up the ranks to the Wilkins gig, and even more of a spectacle is expected for the arena tour.
Another Xcel Center concert announced today: Christian pop/rock favorites Michael W. Smith and Third Day will pair up at the St. Paul arena on Dec. 7. Those tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. for $22-$52 (also through Ticketmaster and the arena box office). This will be Smith's sixth time playing the X.
