Actor and comedian John Mulaney has pushed back his stand-up comedy shows that were scheduled for this weekend in Minneapolis.
A former writer for “Saturday Night Live” and a four-time Emmy winner, Mulaney was slated to bring his “Mister Whatever” tour to the Armory Jan. 11-13, just days after poet and mother Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent.
“What’s happening in your city is heartbreaking,” Mulaney wrote on social media. “I don’t feel comfortable asking thousands of people each night to leave their home, gather at the venue and then make their way home when the situation is so unsafe.”
Mulaney now will be performing at the Armory April 10-12. Tickets to the postponed shows will be honored then. Patrons also can seek refunds from points of purchase.
“I know a fun stand-up show could be a nice distraction, but it doesn’t sit right with me to put anyone at risk.”
His fans have responded with gratitude and attaboys.
“I hate it, but I understand,” poster karleekanz wrote. “I was looking forward to have a moment away from the horrors but it’ll have to wait.”
