Combine wrapping up today

The NFL Scouting Combine will end today but it will remain a busy week for teams.

There was some big-time excitement coming out of the NFL Scouting Combine earlier Tuesday in Indianapolis when Southern Cal safety Taylor Mays was clocked with an unofficial time of 4.24 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

That figure, according to NFL.com, would have tied Chris Johnson for the fastest 40 time in the combine since 2000, when official results were first recorded. Would have are the two key words because the NFL Network later said Mays actually ran a 4.43.

The combine will wrap up after today but this remains a busy time around the NFL. Free agency will begin at 11:01 p.m. on Thursday and while the Vikings can't sign an unrestricted free agent unless they lose one, they will remain in the hunt to keep their own free agents. That list includes running back Chester Taylor.

Don't forget, too, that Brett Favre will appear on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno after the late news on NBC affiliate KARE (Ch. 11) on Thursday night.
