A Columbia Heights woman was sentenced Monday to 58 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of second-degree possession of a controlled substance, a felony, said Itasca County Attorney John J. Muhar.

According to a criminal complaint, Dawn Alisyn Jacobsen, 39, was arrested Aug. 24 in the parking lot of the Westgate Center in Grand Rapids, Minn. where an officer conducting surveillance observed a drug sale involving Jacobsen and two other men.

Jacobsen was in possession of written notes with dollar amounts on them to indicate previous drug sales as well as a journal chronicling past sales when she was arrested, the complaint said.

Officers found about 6 grams of a substance containing cocaine, heroine or methamphetamine in a van Jacobsen had been in, the complaint said.

Jacobsen could have faced up to a 25 years in jail and/or a $500,000 fine under state statue 152.022, but reached an agreement with the prosecutor for the shorter sentence. A judge approved the agreement, the Itasca County Attorney's Office said.
