A 76-year-old man was shot and robbed Tuesday night by an unknown assailant in his Columbia Heights home, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
Columbia Heights police called to the home in the 5000 block of Johnson Street NE. found the man lying on the kitchen floor with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and is expected to survive, the sheriff’s office said.
The victim told police that he had just returned home and walked in from an attached garage when the suspect entered the still-open garage door, walked in the house service door and immediately shot the victim without making any demands, the sheriff’s office said.
The suspect then searched the victim’s pockets and took his wallet before fleeing on foot.
The case remains under investigation by Columbia Heights police and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
