Color matching tool Those who want to accurately capture a color for design purposes now have a new tool. Pantone has introduced Capsure, a compact, handheld device that lets you measure and match color instantly from among more than 8,000 colors in its library.
The device measures the color of any surface, and then delivers the Pantone color number with one click. It also provides dozens of additional Pantone color options and complementary colors. Users can also upload fan decks from popular paint manufacturers, at an additional cost, to match the color of an inspirational item in paint.
The device uses tri-directional image capture technology to eliminate the shadows and interference inherent to patterned and textured materials and surfaces. It records 27 images in 1.6 seconds, and can extract up to four dominant colors from an intricate pattern.
Users can preview the image on the device's 1.75-inch color screen. Capsure is powered by a rechargeable lithium battery that lasts for thousands of measurements on a single charge.
At $649, it's likely to appeal to professional designers and painters who don't want to haul around their color fan decks. Find more info at www.pantone.com, where the device is available for purchase.
