The driver of a semitrailer truck standing outside his rig along a central Minnesota highway in the dark was killed when another semi came along and struck the stopped truck, authorities said.

The collision occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday on Hwy. 25, northeast of Rice in Benton County, according to the State Patrol.

The dead truck driver was identified as Jeffrey L. Skroch, of Rice. Skroch would have been 29 years old Friday.

According to the patrol:

Skroch was standing outside his semi along northbound Hwy. 25 and left the rig partly in the lane. Another semi came along and rear-ended the stopped rig. Skroch was dead at the scene. Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jesse Grabow said it is not clear why Skroch got out of his truck.

The second truck driver, Christopher L. Marzofka, 31, of Boyceville, Wis., was hospitalized in St. Cloud with noncritical injuries.
